Liquid Quiker Quarterback Qualifies God’s Quotient of Quintessence
Ron McClellan poem
By Jim Jack
"The Canadian geese know when winter is coming and it’s time to fly;
Ron McClellan packed his bags early with scarcely time to say good-bye.
From North of this great American border;
Our friend Ron got his eternal marching order.
Good enough may be adequate for some when they make a run;
But Ron was a true frontrunner…he was fast, formidable, and always had fun.
At 50, not one of us would dare call him an old goat;
We all knew Ron really knew how to drive a top fuel boat.
The “Liquid Quiker” was the Top Fuel record holder;
Ron was the man, and maybe none were ever bolder.
People said a 4.58 was awfully quick when Ron arrived at the dock;
But in God’s time-frame it was barely one tick of His eternal clock.
From brackets to Pro Mod and all the way up to Top Fuel;
When you lined up against Ron, it was always a duel.
Ron and Bob were a team for who knows how many years,
It’s okay to remember them as team mates even through some tears.
Ron and Dawn also joined up as a team;
When he looked at her…he couldn’t help but beam.
Roger was an expert on how to tune Ron’s top fuel motor;
So, if he was running for office…he probably get every voter.
We were with Ron a few years back in the hospital in Augusta;
He said to Bob; let’s build a new boat just because we musta.
Ron meticulously put on his driving gear before each run;
And we’ve all seen him drive, well, after the setting sun.
Ron has always been worth his weight in gold;
Ask anyone, he’s one of the best I’ve always been told.
The skies tonight over Firebird Lake are calm and wonderfully clear,
If you listen closely it may be the echo of Ron’s voice that you’ll hear.
Dear friends, please take time tonight to look up at the evening skies;
I can tell you it was made by God’s voice, definitely not the enemy’s lies.
There are many things in life that we can’t control;
But we must learn to trust God with our eternal soul.
Ron was a drag boat racer for much of his life;
Lord, teach us some lessons that will keep us from strife.
More often than not Ron’s way was the challenging thing to do;
But listen to God, He always has the right idea just for you.
Remember, none of us has any extra time lying around;
If you want to be the quickest boat…some nitro must pound the ground.
So how do we go about having a good day?
Simply look to the Lord and say, let’s all pray."
